Jeweler in Rehoboth Beach helping to feed children in need

The Harry K Foundation helps feed children in need in Delaware.

Everyone can appreciate a beautiful piece of jewelry, whether it's a diamond engagement ring, a pearl necklace or a nice pair of earrings–and Harry K Jewelry in Rehoboth Beach has it all. But as Harry Keswani himself tells 47 ABC, he does much more than just make and sell jewelry. He's also helping out kids in need across Delaware.

"People are unaware of how hungry our children are right here in Delaware," Keswani said. "I came from a background that saw a lot of hardship and I promised myself that when I can and when I'm able I would try and make a difference of other children."

And for the past 3 years, he's doing just that through the Harry K foundation. Keswani says roughly two thirds of households in Delaware have food insecurities, meaning they don't always know where their next meal will come from, or when.

Keswani tells 47 ABC, "This is what the children are faced with so we decided that we're going to put an end to that."

Launching the foundation in 2013, he used a Christmas gala to open 7 food pantries throughout Rehoboth and Sussex county. Since then, he's partnered with many sponsors and held other events such as a chocolate festival and a 5K to help raise money. Today he has 30 food pantries, most of which are in schools around Delaware.

"The foundation has grown from being just a couple pantries to now a statewide organization," Keswani said.

He says a lot of his help comes from one of his partners, including the Delaware food bank. He adds that in addition to the pantries, they also offer something called the backpack program where they go into schools and place meals in backpacks of children who need them.

"There's still a lot more to do it's not that we've ended this, we've got to continue this. Thankfully I was able to do something in my life that I can afford to help others and after all that's what we're here for."

Keswani says they are constantly looking for partners and they're also planning their Christmas gala for this year; it will be on December 16th. For more information you can visit his website: www.harrykfoundation.org
