Wicomico High School teacher named 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year

WICOMICO CO., Md. – Wicomico County Public Schools has a new Teacher of the Year.

Emma Cohn Matthews, an English teacher at Wicomico High School, was named the 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year Thursday evening.

Mrs. Cohn Matthews is in her seventh year as an English teacher at Wicomico High School and received her bachelor’s degree in English Secondary Education and master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Salisbury University. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Literacy Studies and is working toward National Board Certification.

She began teaching with Wicomico County Public Schools in August 2018 and has spent all seven years at Wicomico High. She is in her fifth year as the PBIS chair and second year as the English and World Language Department chair. She is also an advisor of WiHi’s GSA, an after school tutor, a mentor teacher, and an adjunct professor at Salisbury University.
