Laurel man arrested in Fruitland for assault and violating a peace order

Bruce L. Jones, 35, Laurel, Del.

On Wednesday, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy arrested a man following an allegation that say he violated the terms of a peace order.

According to the report, Bruce Jones had been repeatedly driving by the victims on South Brown Street in Fruitland several times a day, making a hand gesture using only one finger.

Officials say that due to the perceived harassment, a peace order was obtained and served on Jones that banned him from making contact and engaging in this type of behavior.

Just prior to Jones’ arrest, it was alleged that he was driving through this same area, causing a disturbance and actually drove off road, striking two individuals in what seemed like intentional act. None of the individuals that were hit apparently received serious injuries.

According to the report, upon arrest, the deputy took Jones to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner.

Following an initial appearance, the Commissioner reportedly detained Jones in the Detention Center in lieu of $100,000 bond after being charged with assault first degree, assault second degree, failure to comply with  a peace order, and failure to remain at the scene of an injury accident.
