Senate okays nuclear task force

DELAWARE – A resolution passed in the Delaware Senate to create a task force to explore the benefits of nuclear energy.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 18 comes from State Senator Bryant Richardson.

The Delaware Nuclear Energy Feasibility Task Force would look into using Small Modular Reactors to help meet Delaware’s energy needs.

The group would be tasked with identifying suitable locations for the reactors and to analyze the long-term economic benefits and compare pricing to other energy sources.

It would also evaluate job creation potential and how going nuclear could help contribute to Delaware’s energy independence.

“The task force work is supposed to be done and a report is supposed to be done by December 31st and what I’m hoping is we’ll learn through this process what the benefits of the Small Nuclear Reactors and also how we can improve the permitting process so we can get something like this produced in Delaware,” said Sen. Bryant Richardson.

The legislation is now headed to the House for consideration.
