Art festival hits Rehoboth

Rehoboth Beach hosted their 43rd annual outdoor art show today in Henlopen Acres. The art league connected with the annual event raises funds through a lemonade stand to support children through their development in art. 47 ABC was able to attend the event and saw hundreds of paintings, which event organizers tell us are from all over the world. Artists come to this annual show to showcase their work and in some cases, even sell it.

“I just bought this for my granddaughter,” said Geraldine Smith. “She has always loved art and i just love the color and details in this piece.

We were among hundreds of people on Sunday walking up and down the isles enjoying the festivities that also included ceramic work, There was a women set up with a chair and a ceramic desk set-up, making vases for people as they passed by. Additionally, there was a luncheon that also supported children in their development in art alongside the art league.

The Rehoboth Art League has been active since 1938 and linked with different organizations throughout Sussex county like YMCA and first state action agency. They create fundraising events, like the lemonade stand, with one common mission.

“It’s really all about the kids,” said Ms. Holloway, organizer of the art league. “We raise money here and in many other places throughout the eastern shore to put back into the community for the kids. We mainly provide after school programs for disadvantaged kids and help them to tap into the artist within them.”

These after school programs provide lessons on how to interpret artwork as well as how to gain confidence in yourself to create masterpieces. The league is linked with many organizations like, YMCA and first state action agency to create funds through things like the lemonade stand.

If you missed the festival this weekend you can join in on the fun next weekend both Saturday and Sunday 10am – 4pm at Henlopen Acres in Rehoboth.
