Salisbury-Wicomico Joint Planning and Zoning Commission to separate

SALISBURY, Md. – Both Wicomico County and the City of Salisbury are moving forward with the dissolution of the Salisbury-Wicomico Joint Planning and Zoning Commission.

This will not get rid of the planning and zoning commissions for the city and the county, but would establish both as their own separate entities.

Currently, the city and the county have their own planning and zoning departments and County Executive Julie Giordano said this is the last step in separating the two commissions.

Giordano also said both she and the city mayor are in agreeance about the separation.

“There are a lot of city things going on from density and parking and things like that and they really need to have a good city focused group really looking at the issues for Salisbury and then on the other end, there are many times where a planning and zoning meeting will happen and there won’t be one thing for the county, so county resources are being utilized for no reason,” said Giordano.

Giordano says the separation between the two commissions will likely go into effect in August or September.
