Tyler Mailloux pleads guilty to felony hit-and-run in teen’s death

SNOW HILL, Md. — Twenty-four-year-old Tyler Mailloux of Berlin, pleaded guilty on February 25, 2025, to a felony charge of failing to stop at the scene of a fatal hit-and-run accident.

The crash, which occurred on the night of July 11, 2022, on Gray’s Corner Road, resulted in the death of 14-year-old Gavin Knupp.

Mailloux admitted he knew or should have known the accident caused a death but did not stop.

The judge ordered Mailloux to be immediately taken into custody pending his sentencing hearing. Sentencing is set for March 19, 2025.

The Knupp family’s attorney, Neil Dubovsky releasing a statement, saying: “today was an emotional but gratifying day. For the first time since our nightmare started, we saw the person who took our son and brother begin to be held accountable. We want to again thank Kris Heiser and her team for their tireless efforts to help make this happen. Nothing will bring Gavin back and our fight is far from over, but today was a meaningful step in the right direction. And for that we are grateful.”
