Frederica man leads police on chase from Harrington to Woodside

Antonio T. Heredia, 47, of Frederica, Del.

Harrington Police say three people were arrested on Thursday night after a driver failed to pull over for a traffic stop and fled up U.S. Route 13 to Woodside.

At around 10 PM, Harrington Police say an officer witnessed a traffic violation and activated the lights and sirens on on a fully marked police cruiser to signal the driver to pull over. Instead of stopping, the driver reportedly sped off northbound on Route 13, driving recklessly. Police say the officer initiated a pursuit, but held back once reaching Irish Hill Road in Canterbury due to safety concerns related to a high-speed chase.

Other agencies were alerted to the pursuit and Delaware State Troopers and Delaware Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement members reportedly witnessed the suspect vehicle on Main Street in Woodside. Police say the vehicle pulled into a driveway and that the driver and two passengers jumped out, attempting to flee on foot. After a short foot chase, all three occupants were taken into custody, officials said.

The driver is identified as 47-year-old Antonio T. Heredia of Frederica. He is charged with third offense DUI, disregarding a police officer signal, resisting arrest, driving with a suspended or revoked license and multiple traffic violations stemming from the pursuit. He was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute on a secured bond of $4.211.

One passenger, 34-year-old Carrie C. Dixon, of Millsboro, is charged with resisting arrest and was released pending her court appearance.

The other passenger, 26-year-old Chelsea Abrams, of Denton, was found to have an active capias from the Kent County Court of Common Pleas and was released on a $500 unsecured bond, officials said.
