Md. Comptroller’s Office issues statement on 1099-G printing error
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Maryland Office of the Comptroller says it has identified a printing malfunction that resulted in a limited batch of roughly 6,000 1099-G forms going to incorrect addresses.
We’re told the printing error did not impact other tax forms produced by the agency, and there was no external data breach, as this was an internal issue. Anyone who received another person’s information by mistake should destroy the document immediately.
The correct forms will be mailed to affected individuals this week, and the correct information is available to view online.
In addition, the agency plans to provide additional instructions in the coming days to impacted individuals regarding crediting services paid for by the Office of the Comptroller. A dedicated email address, phone line, and website for impacted individuals will be treated. Affected taxpayers can also email gad@marylandtaxes.gov with the subject line “1099G Issue” with any questions or concerns.
The agency released a statement, saying “We sincerely apologize for not catching the error and for any distress this incident may cause the affected individuals. We will be altering our process in the future on printing jobs to ensure this type of incident does not ever happen again.”
