SALISBURY, Md. – A former Parkside High School wrestler was killed in a training accident in Georgia last week.

We’re told Spc. Jacob Mullen, age 25, was one of two killed in a vehicle rollover Thursday night at Fort Stewart. He was part of 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. The Army says the accident happened during a field training exercise, during which Mullen and a second victim were in their Joint Light Tactical Vehicle when it rolled off road and into standing water.

Parkside High School Wrestling released the following statement on social media:

“It is with great sadness that we report the tragic loss of one of our own. Jacob Mullen wrestled for Parkside during the early part of my coaching career at PHS. He was always a reliable, hard working student-athlete who strived to improve each year which was especially evident by his commitment to the weight room in the offseason. By the time he was a senior and as a result of his motivation to succeed he became a solid competitor and contributor to our program. When he left Parkside I know that he was excited to enlist in the U.S. Army where he has proudly served since graduating from high school. Jacob you will always be remembered as a diligent, dedicated athlete and remarkable person. Thank you for your contributions to Parkside Athletics as well as your service to our country.

Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to Jacob’s family and friends during this difficult time. Once a Ram always a Ram.”
