Adult skaters are disappointed with the decision to close the ice rink

HARRINGTON, Del. – For the past 20 years, the Centre Ice Rink has been a staple for the Harrington community. The venue offers ice skating, figure skating, and hockey. The rink hosts events and fundraisers in the offseason.

Adult skaters will feel the effects of the closure as well. Joanna Wilson and Karen Moffet have skated at the rink since the beginning of 2005.

Moffett said this move would be an enormous blow to the community. “It’s like a second family here, a relatively small tight-knit group of people, and it’s heartbreaking. There’s only one rink after this on the entire Delmarva Peninsula.”

Wilson thinks the rink produces the best talent available.

“We’ve had 2 Disney performers come out of this rink. We’ve had the Theatre on Ice of Delaware founded here. There have been so many good things that have happened here, and so many good things waiting to happen.”
