Federalsburg crash claims life of 17-year-old

FEDERALSBURG, Md. – An investigation is underway following a crash that claimed the life of a Caroline County teen over the weekend.

Shortly before midnight Sunday, Maryland State Police were called to a reported crash on Route 313, north of Chipmans Lane in Federalsburg. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2010 Ford Fusion was driving route on Route 313 when it rear-ended a dump truck, that was reportedly stopped partially on the shoulder and in the roadway for snow removal and salt operations.

A passenger in the Ford, identified as 17-year-old Trevor Whiteley, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford, identified as 19-year-old Nathan D’Orlando, was taken to Shock Trauma by Maryland State Police Aviation.

The driver of the dump truck, identified as 24-year-old William Andrew, declined ambulance transport.

We’re told a post-crash inspection of the dump truck is being conduct, and it is being investigated as to whether or not alcohol was a contributing circumstance in the crash.
