today. yeah david, i think we all were pretty shocked when we heard the news today, that one of the best coaches in the state of maryland would be shutting it down for this season. as stephen decatur high school principal tom zimmer told reporters that head coach bob knox will be taking a leave of absence for the 2016 season. now details are very limited at this time but zimmer informed us that the coach, who was entering his 33 year will not coach the 2016 football season for family health reasons. knox is the 2nd winningest active head coach in the state of maryland with 228 career victories, only trailing good counsel’s bob malloy. in knox’s absence, defensive coordinator and former snow hill head coach stan griffith will step in as interim head coach. zimmer said quote, “we are fully confident that coach griffin will continue the seahawks tradition of excellence until coach knox resumes his role next season” end quote. and hard to believe but we are just about halfway thru our high school football tour stops. tonight, we’ll head to dagsboro to check in on second year head coach phillip townsend and his indian river indians. last year ir finished with a 4-6 record but they return a dynamic backfield this season in the duo of seniors george martin and gerald foreman. the indians are looking to get back into the playoffs this season after a two-year hiatus, so be sure to check their preview out tonight right here on 47abc at 11. and we are now less than a week away from our dsi coaches conference, we’ve been plugging this thing all week, gonna continue to do so because if you love high school football, you absolutely cannot miss this. we’ve got 8 coaches coming to the studio, were previewing all 27 of our maryland and delaware teams. so expect a lot of fun and maybe a little trash talk on the side, all in the form of a lot of fun right here at 7 on saturday. that’s it for sports – more news and weather straight ahead. stay with us. catch more of the action on our sports page at
