Highlights from today's games.

this thing, we are 9 teams down, still have 18 left to go so we are exactly a third of the way thru, its been a lot of fun getting to know these teams. and tonight were diving head first into another team’s huddle. this squad, the last division 2 state champion from the henlopen conference in delaware, im talking about the indian river indians. track the indian river indians are one of the scariest teams in the henlopen south this season. after a 4-6 season a year ago, ir is now into year two of the phillip townsend experience… everyone loves townsend. townsends like the cool coach out of everyone coming into your first year, you dont really know what to expect, this year i know we have a really good team a really good group of seniors which ich always good makes it easier on the head coach. track one of the more interesting storylines this camp is the battle at quarterback.. right now, were really trying to narrow down between the two guys at quarterback, its really who wants the job more. and then its really gonna come down to leadership. taking over the huddle, thats really gonna play a difference nc who we select as quarterback. track whoever finds their way under center, inherits one of the richest backfields in the conference. ir returns bruising all south running back george martin and speedy scat back gerald foreman. last year, they split time, this year, the dynamic duo will be on the field together alot more, causing headaches for defenses. this year i think the coaches did a really good job in finding an offense where we can both utilize our skillset. and the thing about that is we are different running backs but geralds not afraid to go inside, im not afraid to bounce it to the outside. theyre pretty much going to build off each other its gonna be hard for teams to come up with a defense to stop both of em. track the indians are moving back in a championship direction and the seniors know that building it back up, starts now. we need to set this up for future teams as well, were gonna go as hard as we can and make this a great senior year, but this teams gonna be here long after were gone, so there a big role we fill as far as teaching these young guys and getting them ready for the future. ir’s season kicks off at home on friday, september 11th at 7 pm, when they host linganore of frederick county in maryland. the lancers beat ir by 43 points in last years season opener, so the indians are itching to get revenge. to more local football news now as stephen decatur high school principal tom zimmer told reporters that head coach bob knox will be taking a leave of absence for the 2016 season. now details are very limited abut zimmer informed us that the coach, who was entering his 33 year will not coach the 2016 football season for family health reasons. knox is the 2nd winningest active head coach in the state of maryland with 228 career victories, only trailing good counsel’s bob malloy. in knox’s absence, defensive coordinator and former snow hill head coach stan griffith will step in as interim head coach. and of course its racing night. the us 13 dragway in delmar was lit up with speed this past friday. lets take a look at some of the winners. chris bishop beat out former champion bobby insley in the top et final. jason taylor of salisbury gets his first win of the pro-bike competition, and representing parsonsburg and taking the checkered in the junior dragsters 2 division none other than alexis truitt. some other winners were tim foskey, josh davis, sara davis, and keith riddle. congrats to all the winners as well as all participants on another successful and safe night on the track out there in delmar. that’s it for sports. we’ll wrap things up after the break! keep it right here — you’re watching 47 abc on the c-w catch more of the action on our
