Fire experts to demonstrate safe burning in ‘Learn & Burn’ workshop

GEORGETOWN, Del. – We’ve been experiencing an extensive drought here on Delmarva, which can pose fire safety threats.

The Delaware Forest Service is working to lower the chances of fires sparking, through its Learn & Burn Workshop.

The workshop demonstrates a safe prescribed fire, which helps manage forested lands, while getting attendees up to date on essential fire education.

Woodland fire supervisor, Sam Topper said they want to show and tell folks how to properly deal with fires.

“All of these prescribed fires are done in very strict weather conditions, fuel conditions and with the proper staff and equipment on scene to ensure their containment. That’s what we want to demonstrate at this event,” Topper said.

The workshop will be held on January 31st, from 10am-2pm at Redden State Forest in Georgetown.
