in dewey beach -burned down. but the community rallied — and today showed eddie riggen – the owner of ed’s chicken and crab just how much they care. 47 abc’s ashonti ford has the story. track ed’s restaurant burned down after a mini cooper – crashed into the building and over a propane line causing a gas leak and ultimately the end of his 38 year career. in those years ed made a lot of friends and they made that known on wednesday at starboard restaurants fundraising event for him. 13:27:55 ed can yuck it up with the best of them – well he’s met his match tonight cuz he’s got hundreds and hundreds of people here that all want to talk to ed. 13:28:01 track steve montgomery is the owner of starboard restaurant on dewey beach and he says ed has been so special to the community so they couldn’t let his career end that way. and former mayor, pat wright, who was in attendance agreed 13:42:23i’ve known ed for 35 years at least and way back before the atm’s where available, all my beach house people would go down to write a check and we called him eds chicken and cash 13:42:35 track chicken and crab was on the menu along with orderves and ed’s chicken and crab apparel that he was happy to sign for people. 13:30:37i appreciate this very much with everybody coming and everything – a lot of them are my customers and everything and i just hope i can continue to know a lot of them 13:30:50 all the money that was raised at this event will go to support ed and his family. ashonti ford 47abc there is no talk of ed reopening as of yet.
