Salisbury man pleads guilty to drug, firearm charges

1280 Micah Martin

SALISBURY, Md. – A Salisbury man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from an attempted traffic stop earlier this year.

On July 14th, a Fruitland Police officer reportedly tried to stop a vehicle in which 25-year-old Micah Martin was an occupant. The vehicle failed to stop and continued speeding in an attempt to evade the officer. Following a brief vehicle and foot chase, Martin was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle and flight path led officers to find controlled dangerous substances and drug paraphernalia. The following day, Salisbury Police officers responded to a second location, meeting with a homeowner who reported that he found a suspicious bag in his yard. Inside the bag, officers found two handguns, an amount of fentanyl, and an amount of heroin, along with Martin’s identification card, and it was determined that the yard in which the bag was found was along the flight path that Martin led the officers on the previous night.

On Monday, Martin pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance and two counts of illegal possession of a regulated firearm. He was subsequently sentenced to 35 years behind bars with all but 15 years suspected. Five years of the sentence is the mandatory minimum.
