Locals share Christmas Day traditions
SALISBURY, Md. – For some, Christmas is a day filled with going from house to house, visiting loved ones.
But for others, like Tim Thompson, it’s about remembering those loved ones who aren’t here.
“This year will be a little different. I just lost my mom, so it will be a little different for us this year,” Thompson said.
But while Christmas may mean something different depending on who you ask, one thing many are expecting is to see gifts underneath the tree.
Frank DeGregorio told WMDT he and his family are a bit more patient, and they wait until Christmas morning to unwrap their presents.
“We just spend the day together, you know. Open up gifts in the morning,” DeGregorio said.
But Alyssa Bradley’s tradition is to peek into the wrapped up wonders the night before.
“Usually, on my mom’s side, we open one present on Christmas Eve, and it’s usually like pajamas or something little like that. But it is a fun tradition that we’ve always had,” Bradley said.
For Gavyn Parks, the presents are nice, but nothing beats the Christmas dinner.
“My mom makes a mean lemon chicken. We also got stuffing, we also have crab meat this year,” Parks said.
Kylyn smith and Londyn Onley said they have a lot on Wednesday’s agenda.
“We open our presents, we talk about our presents, and we just sit down talk,” Londyn said. “My mom cooks, we go to different places to get different gifts, it’s fun.”
Whether your Christmas plans include enjoying a big meal like Gavyn, opening gifts early like Alyssa, or something in between, Daniel Admas said the top priority this year is to spend time with family.
“Take care of your family and love them, because you never know when it could be your last Christmas with them,” Adams said.
