The U.S. Navy Blue Angels visit NASA’s Wallops Island as they prepare for 2025 OC Air Show

WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. – Monday the U.S. Navy Blue Angels made the trek to NASA’s Wallops Island. Their pilots will compete in the 2025 Ocean City Air Show.

Two pilots represented the unit, Lieutenant Commander Lillian “Lunchbox” Montana and Major Scott “Goldie” Laux. The team arrived in their Blue Angels yellow and blue F/A – 18 Super Hornet. This winter visit to the flight facility was in preparation for the show.

Major Laux is excited to come back to what he feels is home soil. “We both grew up in Northern Virginia actually, and so I think we both spent time on the Eastern Shore. I know I have in Ocean City specifically, and so it’s a great place and we’re really excited for the air show there.”

The fourth stop on the 2025 Air Dot Show Tour, the OC Air Show, is scheduled for June 14-15 over the Ocean City beach and boardwalk. Major Laux tells WMDT, that the Angels have been consistently practicing for the moment.

“Throughout the season, we continue with practice flight demonstrations. We’ll knock out at least one a day during the week, with Monday off during the week. Lot’s and lot’s, hundreds of flight demonstrations and practice flight demonstrations that are fun throughout the year for every pilot.”

Commander Montana has enjoyed flying since she was a young child. She recalls seeing her mother take off in a Cessna 172. Something she loves about the aviation space, is the teamwork in the air. Montana believes this is what made her fall in love with wings.

“Naval Aviation, specifically carrier aviation, has been so phenomenal to experience. There’s nothing like a kat shot, there’s nothing like a trap. Aside from the aviation aspect of it, just the comradery that you experience in the ready room. The teamwork is something I cherish every day.”

The Blue Angels tell WMDT, they hope to see the community in full force next summer.
