Milford Police: Man jumps into lake to avoid police, two arrested

The Milford Police Department says two men were arrested Wednesday evening after police attempted to check on their welfare and one allegedly ran away, jumping into a lake.
Shortly before 6:30 PM, police received a tip that two men who appeared to be drunk were walking on the roadway at Sunset Lane and Kings Highway. A Milford Police officer went to the area to investigate and found two young men matching the description walking on the road, officials said.
As the officer stepped out of the police vehicle to contact the two, one man reportedly ran away toward Silver Lake. The second suspect stayed at the scene and was identified as 18-year-old Jordan Skiba of Milford. Police say he was under the influence of alcohol and he was taken into custody.
Milford Police officers and a Milford K-9 unit were called in to locate the other suspect, searching the woods around Silver Lake. Officials say officers found the man attempting to hide in the lake where he was struggling to keep his head above water. The Carlisle Fire Company was alerted to be prepared for a possible water rescue, but officers say they were able to get the man out of the lake before the rescue was needed. He was identified as 20-year-old Kevin Morales-Perez of Georgetown.
Morales-Perez was treated on scene by medical personnel from the Carlisle Fire Company and then transported to Milford Memorial Hospital for additional treatment, officials said. He was additionally found to be under the influence of alcohol, according to police.
At the Milford Police Department, Skiba reportedly became disorderly with police and tried resisting arrest.
Both men are charged with resisting arrest, being drunk on a highway and underage possession or consumption of alcohol. Morales-Perez was also charged with criminal mischief under $1,000. Both were committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution while they sobered up for arraignment. There arraignment information has not been released at this time.
