will soon be coming to an end as it is officially game week.. but we still have a few last teams to look at yeah that’s right the countdown is on at this point.. just 3 days until the opening day kick off but before then, we still have a few last teams to preview.. so lets keep this thing rolling our high school football tour picks back up this afternoon, as this time we head over to felton to check on the spartans lake forst is coming off their 2nd straight trip to the playoffs.. and are hoping to make some noise again this season.. nat pop its back to business at lake forest as the spartans look to defend their conference crown for the 2nd straight season nat pop buts that’s about where the comparisons end, between this years team and last “its like a brand new team out here. we lost like a lot of players. so its uh, its a whole new team. it’s nothing like it was last year.” the spartans graduated 25 seniors… including 2 year starting quarterback noah johnson, who knew the system better than anyone, outside of maybe his dad “even when he went home, he had to practice it. even when it was the summer time, we were out doing it for the past couple years. so he got to be pretty good at it.” new team.. but not any less dangerous “we look pretty good, we look smaller but, we are still tough and we are still fast. we just got to be tougher than everybody else and just outwork, our opponents.” xavier daniels will be taking over under center after earning the job early in camp “he’s learning to ride and read. and we see much improvement over him, week and week so far, and i think he is going to be pretty good at it.” “its taken a couple weeks and i’m still getting use to it, it’s kind of hard, but i’m pick pocketing off noah like i said, and its getting easier as the weeks go by with coach johnson helping me out, and all the running backs and the other coaches.” one thing that has made the transition easier, is the safety net he has in senior wide out cam lewis… a guy that even in this run first offense, looks to be in for a big year “not a lot of teams can cover a6’4, 210 pound receiver, then we can move him down to tight end, so we look to get the ball in his hands more.” while lake isn’t favored in the south this year, they aren’t lacking confidence to get done either. “it really doesn’t matter to me, cause on friday nights, you still have to play. i expect it to be a battle in the south.” lake forest opens up their season on september 10th when they travel to play hodgston. on to a little baseball the shorebirds are back to work tonight as they try and continue to fight their way back into the playoff hunt. delmarva has won 4 straight and that has given them a chance at this thing now with just about 2 weeks left to play hickory still is holding onto that last playoff spot.. but their lead is down to just a 1 1/2 games over lakewood as for delmarva, they are right on their heels as well now, sitting 2 back with 8 games to play that’s it for sports – more news and weather straight ahead. stay with us. catch more of the action on our sports page
