welcome back, time to talk some sports and spenser.. just 2 days left until opening kick off for our high school teams.. its almost time for some friday night lights yeah that’s right i can’t wait.. we are so close right now we are almost done with our previews too, down to just 5 left.. home stretch our high school football tour picks back up this afternoon, as this time we head over to lewes to check in on cape. 47abc’s hayley milon stopped by the vikings camp, and has an inside look at this years team. cape henlopen posted a 5-4 record last season, but was only 3-3 in conference. for the past couple years the vikings have had it easy out of conferece, but have struggled with north henlopen foes smyrna sssusex central and sussex tech. especially sussex tech. its always a rivalry but we’ve lost to them the last couple years, but this year its looking like we need to beat them this year to win the conference championship of course. our schedule is tough, the henlopen north is probably one of the toughest conferences to begin with, week in and week out. this year, though, the vikings have reason to believe that they’ll post a more successful campaign. we do believe that we have better personel so we’ll see what happens. the vikings return starting quarterback dillon adams and fellow senior robert mitchell, who thinks that this is the year for cape to finally make a statement in the conference. we have to come ready to play the first couple of games because the schedule just gets harder and harder week by week. adams worked hard this offseason to get his arm ready, he’s alreading jiving with his receiving corp. he’s connected with rasheed woods and zach dale for touchdown to straight weeks during the preseason. but adams knows the running game has to get going as well. gotta run the ball better, when the running goes good we can throw the ball a little, because i’ve been working all summer getting my arm right so i think throwing the ball is going to be a key for us this year. the defense, actually pretty solid last year, allowing an average of 25 points per game in conference. the focus of this d needs to be stopping the spread. our defense is pretty big so i think we’ll bully smaller offenses, like spread teams. it looks really strong this year. we got great db’s that are gonna stop the big spread offenses that we didn’t get to quite stop we got good dn’s who are going to stop the run on the outsides.so we should have good experience with that. at cape henlopen, im hayley milon, 47abc.com cape opens up their season on september 10th when they travel to play cape may on to a little baseball some exciting news for one local high school standout, as chincoteague’s trey fisher has committed to play his college ball at old dominion. the senior to be played a huge roll in the ponies run to back to back district championships the past 2 years last season he finished with a 7-1 record, with a .91 e-r-a while striking out 55 batters, on his way to earning 1st team all district, on top of his 3rd 1st-team all-conference selection as for the shorebirds they won their 5th straight ball game last night.. and all the sudden, they are back in the playoff hunt they trail hickory by just 2 games problem is, they have no room for error right now as there are just 7 games left in the regular season. delmarvas back in action today as they have a double header with the grasshoppers that’s it for sports – more news and weather straight ahead. stay with us. catch more of the action on our sports page
