Junior Achievement teaches children about the value of money

One organization that looks to educate children about the value of money is Junior Achievement.

Jayme Hayes, the president of the Eastern Shore location tells us their volunteers travel to local schools teaching financial lessons to children ranging from Kindergarten to the 12th grade.

Hayes  tell us children start developing spending habits at a young age so it is important for them to learn the value of money  through kid friendly activities.

"A lot of kids these days don't see the transaction of cash because a lot of people pay with credit cards or debit cards, so we just explain to them  what mom or dad, or grandpa swipe that card and they make a payment," says Hayes.

Hayes says it is also important for parents to be involved in teaching children about finances. She says parents can do this by having open conversations about saving money for family trips or teaching children  how to save using a piggy bank.

Junior Achievement tells us they are seeking more volunteers to teach financial lessons at schools throughout the Eastern Shore. For more information on how to get involved click here.
