After The Whistle: Parkside’s Addison Apolenis

SALISBURY, Md. – Meet Parkside Freshman Addison Apolenis, a golfing prodigy who has accomplished a lot in the three years she’s been on the green.

In her first year on varsity with the Rams, she was named to the First Team of Bayside South, named Bayside South Rookie of the Year, and even made it deep into the playoffs.

“I was fortunate to make varsity this year, which was a huge goal of mine, and I was super excited and I had a lot of fun. Then I qualified for States and it was super fun. And I got nominated Rookie of the Year. So that was really special because all of my work is paying off,” she said.

She said her family got her into golf when she was eleven years old and to be like her dad and uncles she picked up a club and never looked back.

“I thought maybe it’ll be fun. And my dad said, well, I’ll take you on the course if you hit 100 golf balls for 30 days. And then I did that. And ever since, I’ve just been hooked,” she said.

Her golf instructor, Steve Menz, knows more about her strong work ethic than anyone. He said she’s got a bright future in golf ahead of her.

“If it wasn’t for her desire and her, you know, want to be better, it wouldn’t work out. It takes that special person that comes along and really puts the work in… She can take it as far as she wants to take it. I know that whatever she chooses to do she’ll be absolutely the best at it,” Menz said.
