The timing of peak fall color is very depend on local climate and temperature trends. Two main factors that play into this are latitude and elevation. Locations higher in latitude and elevation will likely see a colder climate and thus an earlier peak time. Locations lower in latitude and elevation will see a later peak time. On average, peak time in the summits of the Rockies is late September. The northern and central plains to the Ohio Valley generally sees peak color between early to late October, similarly for New England too. By the Gulf coast, peak color is generally late November. By Delmarva, peak color on average is late October to mid November.
