EXCLUSIVE: Hogan and Alsobrooks spar over illegal immigration in U.S. Senate race
SALISBURY, Md. – Marylanders are keeping a close eye on the race for U.S. Senate, a race that’s proven to be contentious from the start, and with just over two weeks to go until election day – that continues to be the case.
Former Maryland Governor and Republican candidate Larry Hogan not holding back in an exclusive interview with WMDT News Anchor Rob Petree where he slammed his Democratic opponent on the issue of illegal immigration.
The attack comes on the heels of an article in the Daily Caller that took aim at Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, highlighting remarks made by her back in 2019 where she reportedly said quote: “I have no interest whatsoever in immigration.”
That’s a position Hogan claims has not changed and that Alsobrooks’ actions in her county reflect that position.
“It’s outrageous, and unacceptable, and it’s still her position because not only was she saying that back then, but she still is the largest jurisdiction in Maryland that refuses to cooperate with ICE, and she releases dangerous, violent criminals, rapists, murderers, and gang members onto the streets,” Hogan said. “In my opinion, she hasn’t earned a promotion for doing the terrible job that she’s done.”
We reached out to Angela Alsobrooks’ campaign who issued the following statement, refuting those allegations:
“This is getting a bit desperate. At Angela’s direction, the County does indeed cooperate with ICE. And as Larry knows, Angela is the only person in this race who’s prosecuted rapists, gang members, and murderers and put them behind bars.”
This back and forth over illegal immigration is just the latest in a host of issues the two have attacked each other on. Last month, Hogan called out Alsobrooks following a CNN report claiming she took advantage of tax breaks.
Hogan and Alsobrooks will face off in the General Election on November 5 where the winner will replace retiring U.S. Senator Ben Cardin.
