Rylie’s Smile Foundation hosts the first 5K on Labor Day

in september. and in lewes, folks gathered for a different but equally important reason — the first annual 5k run for rylie’s smile foundation — which benefits sick children fighting for their lives every day. 47 abc justina coronel has more. track 1 10-year-old rylie maedler loves to smile — and her namesake foundatio loves to help. rylie’s smile foundation provides ipod touches to children battling life-threatening disorders spending a significant period of time in the hospital. after a bone tumor diagnosis in 2013 — rylie herself went through extensive surgery and rehabilitation — and as her mother says — felt the power of music. we found out that it actually lowers children’s blood pressure. it improves outcome. it actually lowers their rate of having being sedated. track 2 to continue raising awareness, the foundation hosted their first 5k this labor day. in the crowd — a familiar face who has been very supportive of rylie. i’m not just a public policy maker but i’m a parent as well. butt sot for me it’s just seeing young people take a hold of something and moving it forward and gathering support that gives us as elected officials the opportunity to be apart of something special. track 3 and on a day when some worried about weather — a crowd of more than one hundred — beat expectations. i feel really happy cause i didn’t think this much people were going to come but i’m really happy because it’ll help triple the amount of kids that i can help. track 4 as rylie’s mother explains — that help goes both ways — as rylie has benefited from the community’s support as well. the way she was before her diagnosis she was a very happy go luck little girl and she lost that. butt sot i can see through support from the community, she’s regaining her hope and i can see little hints of that spunk coming back. just stay brave and people are going through the same thing and you are not alone. track 6 justina coronel, 47 abc. if you want to find out more about rylie’s foundation or about rylie’s law– head over to our website at 47 abc dot com for detailed information. in honor of the holiday local first responders received a special
