today as the shorebirds had their season finale. yeah and i feel they somewhat got lost with all the excitement of the nfl and high school football season’s approaching, even with the orioles playoff race heating up, alot of folks forgot about the shorebirds. but i for one am glad i got to be in the building as the shorebirds played one more in front of a nice home crowd, for the final time this season. they would be scoreless all the way up until the 8th, danny mendick turns on one for kannapolis, its fair down the line and they take a 1-0 lead. shorebirds respond in the 8th, the luck of the last game, pitcher’s throw to first is off the mark, ronarsy ledesma slides into second. and a couple pitches later, jake ring slapping a double down the right field line, ledesma comes in to score and delmarva with a chance to take the lead now. and they would, drew turbin would sneak one past third base, ring would score. this game would actually go to extras with alex murphy hitting a walk off single to win it, that’s how you finish off the season, a 4-3 win. on the major league front, still about 25 games to go until the postseason, the nationals certainly look they’ll be there. they top the braves 6-4. 8.5 game lead in the division. in tampa, ubaldo jiminez throws his first complete game since 2011, as the o’s beat the rays 7-3. they are tied with detroit for that final al wild card spot. and the phillies not looking for a playoff berth, but still playing for pride, maybe a chance to get to .500 before season’s end, they beat the marlins by a final of 6-2……… to some news out of the nfl today as the philadelphia eagles sent a surprising headline out this morning when they announced that rookie quarterback carson wentz will be their starter this season. the news comes off the deal the eagles made saturday sending sam bradford to minnesota on friday. wentz played just one preseason game before suffering a hairline rib fracture after taking a hit against the bucs. being named the starter signals he’s healthy following the injury. veteran chase daniel will be the backup, but the carson wentz era beginning a little earlier than expected in philly. and in baltimore some good news for ravens fans as running back and fan favorite justin forsett has resigned with the team, just two days after he was released. by cutting forsett, the ravens were able to carry defensive lineman carl davis and safety matt elam on their initial 53-man roster. those two were put on ir today, opening up a roster spot. forsett was a pro-bowler in his first season with the ravens back in 2014, looking to make an impact again this season. on to our play of the day, in flushing meadow’s new york this afternoon, a young lady by the name of serena jameka williams made history on the infield of the us open. serena with win number 308 in a major championship, that’s one more than roger federer all time. get this, she is 308-42 in her career at majors, three more wins from her 23rd major, that would be an all time record. that’s it for sports. we’ll wrap things up after the break! keep it right here — you’re watching 47 abc on the c-w catch more of the action on our sports page at 47abc.com hairstyles brought to you
