Victim impact workshop coming to Laurel
LAUREL, Del. – A victim impact workshop typically held inside of correctional institutions is coming to Laurel.
The 12 week course teaches offenders to look at the impact of their crime on their victims, community and family members.
Now, in collaboration with local officials, the workshop will be available to the whole community instead of just those who are incarcerated.
Organizers said hearing from victims can be very powerful for offenders and young people who may be at risk.
“Most of them are mothers that will come in, sit down with the men, and talk about how it felt to lose a child and have to bury their child as a result of someone’s actions in the community. And then we break it down and we discuss the ripple effects,” said Khalil Abdar-Rashid, Executive Director of Missed Opts Inc.
The workshop will take place at the New Zion Church in Laurel on November 16th, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
