Woodbridge escapes Laurel with a win
LAUREL, Md. – The Woodbridge Blue Raiders move to 4-1 on the year after beating Laurel 14-13. Neither team scored a point after halftime, with both squads being stymied by the opposing defenses as time winded down.
Koby Shockley scored a rushing touchdown with 30 seconds left in the first half to make it a one-point game but the extra-point attempt was blocked. For the rest of the game, the defense dominated. The Bulldogs had one final chance to win but turned the ball over on downs with seven seconds left.
Blue Raider Head Coach Marvin Dooley was impressed with his defense’s performance.
“I always think defense wins you championships. If you can keep the team from scoring, you have a chance to win. We still have a lot to work on don’t get me wrong but I do think we’re improving each week. My defensive coordinator JD Messeck does a tremendous job, give him a lot of credit too, he works a lot getting guys in position to make the plays and tonight he did another fantastic job,” Dooley said.
