UMES designated as first Patent and Trademark Resource Center on the Eastern Shore

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Wednesday, The University of Maryland Eastern Shore became the first institution on the Delmarva Penninsula designated as a Patent and Trademark Resource Center by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

That means staff at the Frederick Douglass Library will be able to assist students and patrons with researching patent concepts in-house rather then sending them elsewhere, saving local entrepreneurs time and money.

“We’re looking to create economic development in the region. We’re looking to have our students remain after getting their education. Go ahead and stay here, start a business, and stay here and contribute back to the society in which they live,” said Pamela Allison, Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at UMES.

The official grand opening for the Patent and Trademark Resource Center will take place October 2nd at the Frederick Douglass Library.
