Wicomico County Health Department is looking for youth leaders
WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – Wicomico County Health Department is looking for youth with a passion for health. DART’s mission is to address health issues that are important to youth in Wicomico County, including drug and alcohol use, mental health, skills, as well as being able to express their creativity. DART Leader Cynthia Shifler says, “DART is a youth-led and adult-guided coalition hoping to make a difference in Wicomico County by providing education on health-related topics”. She also wants to allow them to talk about topics they are interested in.
DART Leader Cynthia also says, “That youth can be involved in, like sex education or suicide or you know theirs a lot of things. We want them to have that opportunity to choose what things their interested in”. This provides youth with an opportunity to figure out what health area they would like to educate their peers on, create a video, etc. Meetings will be at least monthly. Youth can meet more often if they decide to do so.
The program is looking for youth mostly in middle school but high school students are welcome to join if interested. If you have trouble with getting to the program, the program will offer free rides to the program and back home. Coordinator Cynthia says if your interested in becoming a DART Youth Ambassador you can contact her at 410-219-7544.
