Children identified in Long Neck fire
LONG NECK, Del. – A small community in Delaware is grieving the loss of three young lives, tragically taken in a house fire on Wednesday.
“I still get emotional thinking about it,” Carol Loy, a nearby resident, said.
And that’s how the entire Long Neck community feels, after losing twins Skylar and Veronica, and their baby cousin Amaya, in that fire.
“You are waiting to wake up, and hoping that this is just a bad dream, that this really isn’t happening,” Loy said.
On Thursday, everyone around and near Pot-Nets Bayside spent time to mourn and to remember the horrifying events that unfolded on Scarp Street just 24 hours ago.
“It’s been very sad here since yesterday afternoon,” Sandy Samsel, Controller at Paradise Grill, said.
But, a community overcome with grief is standing strong, even as the investigation continues to unfold.
“The community has been on social media and showing their support and their prayers for the family,” Samsel said.
A make-shift memorial now serves as a reminder of this neighborhood’s loss, and the investigators lining the road throughout the day, combing through the now abandoned trailer, provided a stunning contrast – one that helps to remind neighbors to share messages of love.
“I just say to the family, from all of us here, we have no idea what you’re going through, but we are here to help you get through it,” Loy said.
“They’re not alone through this, and we’ll try to help them out in any way that we can,” Samsel added.
Helping and caring, the healing measures that make a community, and a reminder to never take anything for granted.
“Most importantly, hug your children, just hug them and tell them you love them,” Loy said.
