Route 50 drawbridge repaired after getting stuck several times

OCEAN CITY, Md. – If you passed over the Route 50 bridge Wednesday morning, you may have run into some traffic. That’s because the bridge got stuck several times.

The Maryland State Highway Administration initially thought it was due to an electrical issue, but they later learned it was due to a problem with the brake system.

MSHA officials tell 47ABC that at first, the gates on the bridge got stuck in the down position. After that was fixed, the bridge got stuck in the up position. We’re told the bridge got stuck several more times before the issue was finally resolved at around 1:30 p.m.

Senator Mary Beth Carozza (R – D 38) tells 47ABC she had to take another route into town on Wednesday morning because of the bridge issues, but she was just glad everything returned back to normal within a few hours.

Sen. Carozza said, “So I actually had advanced word that there was a little issue there, so really more out of precaution I went up to the Route 90 bridge only to find out later that the bridge was open.”

MSHA tells 47ABC they had maintenance crews surveying the bridge for a while to ensure that there weren’t any more issues.
