Salisbury, Md. – Wor-Wic Community College held an inauguration today since its inception in 1975, honoring its 3rd president in 48 years. With 25 years of experience in higher education and holding numerous leadership roles in universities across the country, it’s no surprise Wor-Wic Community College chose Dr. Deborah Casey as their 3rd President.
Sandra Pierson is the Director of communication for Wor-Wic, and says they made the right decision. Dr. Roy Hoy retired after 23 years in August, and that’s when Dr. Casey took over. “You can feel the community you can feel the excitement, everyone is here in support of Dr. Casey… Today is the beginning of the wave of the future. Her vision for Wor-Wic is community, collaboration, but mainly students first, excellence always.”
Over 20 speakers were there to honor Dr. Casey, who has gone on record saying quote, “I look forward to leading this vanguard institution into the future, fostering deep-rooted relationships within our community and celebrating the successful outcomes we can achieve together to positively impact the lives of our diverse students, communities and workforce on the Lower Eastern Shore.” End quote.
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore was also in attendance, and Latoya Jenkins Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Experience says Dr. Heidi Anderson and Dr. Casey are working in tangent. “We allow students to come and take classes at UMES at a discounted rate once they Once they complete their degree… Both Dr. Heidi Andrson and Dr. Casey believes this type of program will be able to push social mobility on the Eastern Shore.”
Jenkins was clad the UMES Choir was able to serenade Dr. Casey, and she said her students wanted to be a part of this historical event. “It was important of them to be a part of this momentous event to inaugurate their first woman president to Wor-Wic Community College. They wanted to be here.”
UMES wanted to note that they partner with Wor-Wic so that students who want to transition from a 2-year degree to a 4-year degree can do so with ease. If you or anyone you know is interested in attending Wor-Wic Community College, just visit their website.
