Emerging Leader: Dennis Senkbeil
WMDT – It’s Monday and that means it’s time to introduce you to a new emerging leader.
Dennis Senkbeil is the new marching band director for Salisbury University, the first in over four decades.
This morning, Senkbeil stopped by to tell us more about his new position and his plans for the year.
He says that SU had a marching band over 40 years ago and they have decided to bring it back to provide a new way for students to stay connected.
What better way to connect than through music?
Dennis says that many marching band members aren’t music majors, but like the opportunity to be creative.
Senkbeil’s extensive experience and knowledge makes him the perfect fit for the position.
He says he started his music journey playing the trumpet before attending UMES for music education.
For 15 years, he taught secondary education band while living in Arizona and eventually received a master’s in music education.
Currently, Dennis is working towards a doctorate in musical arts and wind band conducting. He hopes the marching band program will be available starting fall of 2025.
