Dover Police Department promote firearm safety

DELAWARE – Dover Police are giving residents a chance to avoid potential tragedies with a firearm lock free giveaway.

Master Corporal Ryan Schmid says the main goal is to prevent unauthorized access to guns. He says they will be giving away over a hundred gun locks at a first come first serve event.

Corporal Schmid says one firearm accident in the community is too many, and if this initiative helps to prevent those incidents, the program is doing its job. “Too often in America, you see kids getting access to guns unsupervised, accidental discharges, and even if someone who goes in and tries to steal it, will have access to that firearm now. so really this is just a simple and effective measure that we can provide to the community.”

The lock giveaway will take place on September 28th from 10 am to 12 pm. Dover Police encourage all gun owners to come and get one, and if not, no please have safe gun practices when handling a firearm.
