Mayor Rick Meehan speaks out following deadly tram incident in Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Mayor Rick Meehan is speaking out, following the deadly incident where a toddler was struck by a tram on the Ocean City boardwalk.

Details are limited as the investigation is ongoing, but Mayor Meehan said this is this is something that he never imagined would happen in his community, so they’re pulling together all the support they can for the family.

“Our concerns today are about the family, in this time of sorrow,” Mayor Meehan said. “We can’t even imagine what they’re feeling today, I know how we feel, so our concerns are with them and doing whatever we can to help them.”

It’s unclear what caused the incident, however, Mayor Meehan said for the foreseeable future, the tram system won’t be in service.

“We have suspended tram service at this point, out of the extreme caution. We don’t have all of the answers or all the solutions, but the city manager immediately felt that that was the right thing to do, and we all agreed 100%.”
