Children & Families First Org. hosts health fair for families and children alike.
SEAFORD, Del. – The local community came together, to help children to learn more about healthy resources in the area. Seaford Community Hope and Children & Families First hosted the health fair event at Seaford Senior High School.
Organizer, Brendty Chavez said, it’s important we see these things in the community in the future. “It’s important because we always talk about what we see in the community, but these are the kinds of events. We want people to come out and tell us what they want to see, what do you want to see in these programs, what do you want to see in the healthcare program.”
The resource fair was filled with activities like free screenings, wellness checks, and bouncy houses for kids to enjoy. Beebe Healthcare community outreach coordinator Angie, Scott said children are the lifeline of any town.
“Children and the schools are the hub of the community, and it is where the family unit starts, it’s where they feel comfortable, its where they feel safe, and if we can incorporate healthy lifestyles.”
Many health experts, suffer from having to deal with, White Coat Syndrome. It’s when someone’s blood pressure is abnormally high due to the anxiety of being around doctors. This is something DoD Jacob Valvis and many physicians face, and he said, at this event, he strived to show people and children, that he’s a normal person, just like everybody else. “I’m not wearing a white coat, I’m not dressed up as a scary physician, I’m just one of them, just another person, i might have a degree, Doctor of Osteopathy, under my name, I might be Dr. Valvis but today I’m just Jacob”
Organizers said this event was made to get messages out to community members, for people to learn more about their local resources sooner than later.
“We might not need it today, but it’s better to know now than when we are in crisis.” Said Chavez.
