Twilight Wish Foundation making dreams come true in Worcester County
MARYLAND – You’re never too old to dream, or that is the case for a local senior citizen, who is still a child at heart. The Worcester County Development Center held a surprise function today to honor one of its oldest and most glamorous residents.
Carolyn Dryzga, Worcester County Chapter director for Twilight Wish Foundation says oftentimes our seniors can be an afterthought. “That’s what the organization does, we grant wishes for seniors who are in a facility like this, or in a nursing home, or assisted living facility who can’t grant wishes for themselves… The forgotten golden seniors. That’s what I refer to them as. These are forgotten people. I don’t want to forget them. I want to bring smiles to their faces, and this organization helps me do that.”
To make Ms. Virginia Clark’s wish come true they partnered with the Worcester County Development Center, who assists residents with developmental disabilities. Stephanie James is the Executive director and says they are excited to be the first wish granted on the Eastern Shore. “One of our clients, Ms. Virginia is getting her wish to meet Minnie Mouse granted today, and it’s a total surprise, she has no idea… When it came time to grant a wish, she was one of our first thoughts because she’s just a ray of sunshine for everybody.”
Ms. Virginia, in in her 80’s and has been a resident there since the 1970’s. Though she’s a woman of few words, she was very happy to have her wish granted. Amber Fraser has her own business, Amberlina’s Adventures, where she visits various children and adult centers. She brought the party to life by stepping inside the costume and says this hits home for her. “My late departed brother had special needs, and he is a huge pillar of why I do what I do, and I know that if he was here with us today, he would have really enjoyed everything that we did for Ginny.”
The Twilight Wish Foundation say they enjoyed this event, and they have 3 more stops coming up soon so this may have neem their first stop, but it isn’t their last. They say if you have a loved one whose wish you’d like to make come true, please submit their name so the Twilight Foundation can reach out and see if they can make it happen.
