SALISBURY, Md. – A late-night car fire in Salisbury was caused by juveniles playing with fire.
Firefighters were called to the 900 block of Delaware Avenue shortly before midnight for a reported vehicle fire. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, involving a Volkswagen passenger car.
Further investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office revealed that a 9-year-old and a 6-year-old were playing with fire and ignited a piece of furniture in the front year, which spread to the property owner’s vehicle nearby. The 9-year-old was taken to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional to be evaluated for smoke inhalation.
Officials say juvenile referrals are pending as a result of the incident. Total damage was estimated at $50,000.
