UPDATE: Pennsylvania woman killed in overnight crash near Milton

6/24 UPDATE: Police have identified the victim as 18-year-old Shayla Montgomery of Linwood, Pennsylvania.

MILTON, Del. – Police are investigating an overnight crash that claimed the life of one near Milton.

At around 12:15 a.m., police say a Nissan Altima was driving northbound in the right lane on Coastal Highway, north of Oyster Rocks Road. At the same time, a Dodge Charger was stopped on the shoulder of Coastal Highway northbound, north of Oyster Rocks Road. Preliminary investigation revealed that the passenger of the Dodge was out of the car, looking for her cell phone, when she reportedly stepped into the roadway. As a result, the Nissan hit the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, an 18-year-old Linwood, Pennsylvania woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Nissan, a 34-year-old Dover woman, was not injured.
