Alzheimer’s Assocation to host connected conversations on the shore conference

SALISBURY, Md.- The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Maryland will be hosting a conference next Tuesday.
The conference is called Connected Conversations on the Shore, and it’s shining a light on brain health in African American communities.
The MAC center says that “African Americans are twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s, yet face significant barriers in receiving an accurate and timely diagnosis and are vastly underrepresented in clinical trials. ”
Experts will cover several topics including Alzheimer’s Detection, Prevention, and Awareness in the African American Community.
Topics and guest speakers include: “Alzheimer’s Disease in the African American Community: Prevalence, Contributing Factors, and Reasons for Hope” with Lauren J. Parker, associate scientist, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; and “Who’s Taking Care of the Caregiver: Caring and Coping,” presented by Rita Choula Senior Director, Caregiving, AARP Policy Institute.
When WMDT asked why this conference was important program manager Maryln Massey said “We want you to have the tools that you need to move forward and living a healthy prosperous life. Being that even if you have been diagnosed with any type of dementia you still can live a quality life.”
The conference takes place June 11th at the MAC center in Salisbury from 11 am to 4 pm and all are welcome to attend.
