SU tries to ease the burden on students

SALISBURY, Md – College tuition has been increasing for years, placing more and more financial strain on students and their families.

Public universities have been trying to find ways help, they don’t always have full control over final tuition prices, being state-funded. In fall of 2023, more than 90% of Salisbury University’s incoming class received some sort of financial aid, with scholarships and grants adding up to an average of about $9,000 per student.

Year-over-year, SU’s funding for merit-based scholarships increased by 21% last year.

“Salisbury University is doing its best to help our state students, too. We have a program called the Good Neighbor Scholarship, where if you’re from states surrounding Maryland, you get a certain percentage off tuition,” said SU spokesperson Jason Rhodes.

Rhodes added that the Salisbury University foundation for years now has been contributing over a million dollars in tuition assistance to ease the burden on students.
