Fate of OC room tax increase remains up in the air, as county commissioner is yet to be persuaded

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – The fate of a room tax increase in Ocean City, which could generate hundreds of thousands of dollars for the resort town, lies in the hands of one Worcester County Commissioner. In order for Ocean City to increase it’s room tax rate from 4.5% to 5 % it needs support from all seven commissioners. And all but one county commissioner, Josh Nordstrom, are on board. Nordstrom says he’s reluctant to vote in favor of the increase because it seems as though little to nothing has been done to help his district, Pocomoke City, thrive. Now, he wants to use this opportunity as a platform to address the lack of funding that the city of Pocomoke is getting.

“I want to help you help your district. But you have to help me help mine as well. I don’t Feel our voices are being heard still. I didn’t make a lot of promises when I was campaigning, but one thing I did promise people is that we would be heard they were here for me I would not be ignored and intern they would not be ignored,” said Nordstrom.

Nordstrom says the commissioners are expected to vote on the room tax rate increase in early July.
