Wicomico County Council extends CBA deadline

SALISBURY, Md – Friday, the Wicomico County Council held a special legislative session.

The council voted in favor of resolution No. 43 – 2024. The resolution extends the deadline on the collective bargaining agreement between the county, the Fraternal Order of Police, and the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office. The need for an extension comes as the final document has not yet been finished and presented. All of this happening as the council begins to consider the annual budget.

“It makes it very difficult when we have the collective bargaining agreement coming to our table at the exact same time as the budget, because we have two really serious issues to try to sort through,” said Council President John Cannon.

Cannon noted that the council was in a similar position last year, saying that juggling both a CBA and budget at the same time “compromised” their efficiency in evaluating the budget. He expressed doubt that the new CBA will be agreed upon in time, even with the new extended deadline of May 15th.
