Financial boost from HUD to help improve Cambridge homes

Hudson Behavioral Health Expanding

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced over $1.8 million in funding to help improve the health of families in older homes.

Many old homes were finished with lead-based paint, which can be harmful to people, especially kids.

Mayor Steve Rideout said the HUD funds will go towards having homes tested and treated for lead, so they’re up to code.

“A lot of the Cambridge Houses were built in the 40s and 50s and 60s and didn’t have to comply with lead-based paint requirements,” Mayor Rideout said. “As a result, a lot of people have been living in, and children growing up in these houses, to their detriment.”
