Runners remember nation’s fallen heroes, raise funds for county memorials
SALISBURY, Md. – Over 100 runners laced up their sneakers to benefit a local committee that honors our veterans at Winter Place Park.
The Run to Remember Memorial Day 5K is held to raise money for the Wicomico Veterans War Committee, as well as to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.
This committee maintains the flags and flagpoles at the civic center memorials, as well as across the county and at Perdue Stadium.
“This is another opportunity for us to get together and just to enjoy what our patriots have done over the years, and given their lives for us to have this freedom,” said Bill Ferguson, a member of the Veterans Memorial Committee.
Part of the proceeds from this event will help to put on the committee’s ceremony Monday morning at 10 AM at the Civic Center. We’re told organizers are thinking of adding a bike ride to next year’s event.
