Mental health experts provide tips to survive Valentine’s Day depression

DELMARVA – As you’re showering your significant other and loved ones for the Valentine’s Day holiday, mental health experts also want you to keep your mind on those struggling to get through the day.

Registered Psychology Associate under the Supervision of Dr. Samantha Scott Heather Brown told us that holidays can trigger different emotions for people, including sadness. She added that this could lead to risky behaviors like consuming drugs or alcohol to cope.

Brown shared with us a few tips for you to keep in mind, with the biggest being showing others some care. “As a friend you might want to encourage somebody to do something special for themselves whether its treating themselves to something they enjoy like eating, exercising, massage, or whatever makes them feel better,” she said.

Brown also advises those in need of help to reach out to a mental health provider if needed.
