OC businesses hoping to hook a big profit Memorial Day weekend

OCEAN CITY, Md. – In Worcester County, Ocean City is gearing up for one of their busiest weekends of the season.

“The revenue from Memorial Day weekend can pretty much carry you until Fourth of July,” explains Fish Tales owner Shawn Harman. 

That’s why its all hands on deck for businesses in Ocean City with Memorial Day weekend on the horizon.

“Here at Fish Tales we will be opening at 10 a.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday just to squeeze in that extra hour.” 

Up to 300,000 people are expected to make their way to the resort town this weekend.

Ocean City Spokesperson Jessica Waters explains, “We hope this weekend is going to be indicative of how the season is and we’re going to see big crowds, busy businesses and and a crowded beach all summer.” 

Visitors that will pack into local restaurants and stay at local hotels. Visitors they need in order to make a profit during the summer season.

Harman says, “Most of your money is made in the 100 days of summer and of that its once again weather related.” 

Park Place Hotel owner Jackie Ball adds, “People really more than most other events for this holiday weekend, they definitely want to make sure that the weather is good, so it can be really impacted weather.” 

Luckily, right now mother nature seems to be on the businesses side so far.

“If the weather is cooperating everyone wins on this weekend,” says Ball. 

Harman adds, “A good Memorial Day weekend makes it better for everybody in business in Ocean City.”
